Classic Fiction - 'The Wind in the Willows' and 'The Box of Delights'

Classic Fiction - Adapting Stories and Plays

Before Christmas we read the childrens' classics 'The Wind in the Willows' and 'The Box of Delights'.In guided reading we read 'The Wind in the Willows' using the online version from Active Learn - Bug Club. We listened to 'The Box of Delights' as our Class Novel. Then we compared the two books and identified similarities and differences.in terms of setting, characters and themes. We watched versions of each story and acted out scenes from each. We particularly enjoyed stepping into role to become Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad before we wrote playscripts for the 'Wild Wood' Scene. Then we acted out a scene from 'The Box of Delights' relishing the opportunity to be the inquisitive Kay Harker and mysterious Cole Hawlings. After that we wrote a conclusion to the story.
