Our Topic this term is Ancient Greece. We began by locating Greece in Europe and mapping the extent of the Ancient Greek Empire into Africa, The Middle East and Asia.
After understanding the geography of the region we began to learn about how we know so much about this fascinating civilisation. The class have understood that archaeologists and historians have learned vast amounts from the pottery and Art work they have dug up or found.
We have moved on from examining artefacts to exploring photographs of ruins, historical sites and writing from the time. The children have been evaluating the reliability of these as sources of evidence to base our learning on. The class have begun to assess whether they are primary or secondary sources of evidence and whether they are factual or fictional.
