Chocolate Rocks

We put grated white and milk chocolate on a piece of tin foil then applied a lot of pressure, the chocolate settled in layers like sedimentary rock. Then we placed this in a tin foil dish and rested it on some hot water. The heat melted the chocolate and changed it so you couldn't see the layers- this represented metamorphic rock. I then placed some of the metamorphic rock on boiling water until it become a liquid- this represented igneous rock. The children enjoyed using chocolate to understand the rock cycle, especially eating it at the end!
