Reading and Writing
Here are some ideas for getting your child to start early writing:
- By the end of Nursery, children should be writing their first name.
- Check pencil grip (see image below)
- Writing labels/letters - names of people, shopping list, favourite food/colours, weather chart, body parts, animal names.
- Drawing their favourite characters from TV or a book and writing their name.
- Pretending to be teachers.
- Use the alphabet mat to support hearing, saying and writing initial sounds.
